Industrial test benches

AUSY positions itself in all the professions related to developing measurement and test benches and the ability to deliver a complete system with the support of its industrial partners to manufacture boards, machining, and wiring and environmental tests. AUSY’s added value lies in design engineering, the progressivity, maintainability and longevity of its solutions, its coverage of aging or obsolete systems, the automation of tests and integration of computer simulation models.

How we can operate on measurement and test benches

A test bench is comprised of various hardware and software elements. Its development requires bringing a variety of skills to bear in electronics, embedded software, real-time, and applications as well as mechanical engineering. AUSY also has the ability and the know-how to position itself throughout the test bench development cycle, from the upstream phases of the project to the acceptance tests.

AUSY offers:

  • a turnkey solution for the development and maintenance of a new product;
  • the redevelopment of software and hardware sub-systems to cover problems of obsolescence or progression. In the upstream phase, we will:
    • define the overall architecture of the test bench system or sub-system to be developed according to the client’s needs;
    • define the measurement chain components that best suit the context: choosing components off the shelf (National Instrument, Heidenhain, etc.), customising them, and making our own specific developments.

 

Then, we design the circuit boards and develop various software parts. An industrialisation file is sent to subcontractors to produce the boards and perform machining and wiring. When we receive the prototype, we qualify the hardware and software, and we draft the test files. Environmental, security, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests are conducted by our partners or independent laboratories to obtain the CE marking.

During the maintenance phase:

  • we provide after-sales service if wiring, calibration or recalibration is needed, manage obsolescence in accordance with conditions to be defined, and provide spares;
  • we make necessary changes to the software to guarantee a long life for your test bench following changes to the hardware.

 

Our core business

The software that makes up a measurement or test bench where we operate is:

  • software that controls electronic equipment (real-time, embedded Linux, digital signal processor (DSP), peaks);
  • scientific calculation and algorithm processing software;
  • simulators, data sending software;
  • real-time capture and supervision software;
  • UI and imaging tools for operators;
  • measurement software (all or nothing, client/server exchanges).

When progressing or modernising the architecture of an existing test bench to better support its use case, we can offer:

  • automation of functional testing procedures and producing measurements;
  • computer simulation model integration.

Computer simulation and modelling are used to:

Computer simulation is a virtual test bench where design problems can be detected, current hardware can be optimised, and new equipment can be developed. The process involves building a digital 3D model of the hardware and selecting relevant physical models and use conditions. Interpreting and leveraging results allow us to calibrate models and retime the calculated solutions and measured responses. When the boards on the market do not meet our needs, we develop appropriate circuit boards and components. We make sure that the measurement chain is consistent and calibrated as a whole by buying devices and components directly from our suppliers.

 

Our methods

AUSY’s added value lies in design engineering. Starting with the upstream phase of defining the test bench architecture, whether we are developing a new bench, optimising an existing one, or managing obsolete hardware or software, our technical teams take into account the product’s upgradability, maintainability, and longevity. The architecture is designed in accordance with these aspects, use conditions, and projected progression. We consider several technical solutions and choices of technology before making recommendations to the client in line with their needs and constraints.

Any change at the hardware level:

  • a change of device in the measurement chain;
  • a change in board (replacement of an electronic component or sub-assembly of the board such as the logical system, a programmable logic device (PLD), asic, field-programmable gate array (FPGA) or chip).

results in a change, adjustment, or review of the software architecture.

Our partner network

Test bench development requires a good amount of spending (buying connectors, etc.) and wiring as well as potentially producing circuit boards and performing specific environmental tests. AUSY could not do this alone without the help of our partners who help us provide an end-to-end offer that keeps costs under control. We do, however, remain the general contractor for the project and are the client’s sole point of contact. We have a network of partners with whom we have developed relationships over many years, but we are able to find new subcontractors provided they share the same policy as us.

We rely on clearly defined, quantifiable, and verifiable selection criteria:

  • the company’s financial health and solidity;
  • proven and renowned know-how;
  • the availability of their infrastructure, hardware, and laboratories;
  • their ability to make commitments over the medium term (3-5 years).

We make sure our services and professions are complementary and that our future subcontractors are technically capable of meeting our needs. We also verify that they possess the necessary specialist certifications and approvals.

It is the same for maintaining our suppliers in our list of preferred partners. We take into account:

  • the history of our relationship;
  • the quality of deliverables;
  • on-time deliveries.
