« Information Technology Infrastructure Library » regroups the best practices for structuring and improving effectiveness, performance and the costs of information services.. This framework of references is proposed by the United Kingdom's OGC ; the ITIL library was in fact initiated at the beginning of the 1980s by the British government in order to improve the services provided by their IT Department.
ITIL : a Quality system dedicated to the IT Departments
TIL makes available a systematic method that unites the implementation, the operating and the management of IT infrastructure. TIL gathers the best practices of IS services in an set of guides. ITIL's objective is to endow the IS departments (ISD) with tools and documents that allow them to improve the quality of their services, meaning improve their clients' satisfaction, while responding the best way possible to the organisation's strategic objectives. In order to do this, the approach consists of considering the IT service as an ensemble of tightly linked processes. Pragmatically, ITIL responds to a simple logic: make sure that the IT serves the personnel and the clients and not the reverse. The ITI's approach also has the objective of making the IT Departments aware of the direct impact they can have on the corporation's global quality.
